About your speaker

Eddie Edwards

Britain’s first and only Olympic ski jumper. Calgary 1988 turned a plasterer from Cheltenham into a household name across the world, and the story has outlasted half the gold medallists from those Games. Eddie now speaks with the kind of honesty you only get when the story has already outrun you, and he has a sense of humour about every inch of it.

What to expect over lunch

A welcome drink at noon as guests arrive, with Eddie around the room before we sit down. Three course set menu served from half past twelve with wine pairing from our list. Eddie takes the floor for a hosted conversation at half past two, with questions from the tables welcome throughout the afternoon.

The story lands differently over lunch than it does on television. You get the full arc, not just the jump. Coffees and petit fours by four, photographs and a chance for a quick hello before we close.

Behind the Disney film

You may have seen Taron Egerton’s portrayal in the 2016 film. It is a great film. It is also a film. The actual story is funnier, harder, and more improbable, and Eddie tells it himself at Steam without the soundtrack or the feel good ending. Expect the bits the cinema left out.
