Friday 23 October 2026, arrival from 12pm
Steam Wine Bar, 1 St George’s Lane, EC3R 8DJ
Michael Edwards, known to the world as Eddie the Eagle, became one of Britain’s best-loved sporting figures at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, where he was the first athlete to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. A plasterer from Cheltenham who funded his own training, he finished last in both the 70 metre and 90 metre events, yet his fearlessness and good humour made him the story of the Games and a household name around the world. He held the British ski jumping record for years after Calgary and his journey from building sites to the Olympic tower inspired the 2016 feature film Eddie the Eagle, starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman. Now an in-demand motivational speaker, he tells one of the great underdog stories in British sport with the same warmth that won over Calgary.
A speaker lunch at Steam Wine Bar in the City of London, two minutes from Monument and five from Bank. Arrival is from 12pm. Tables suit both individual guests and companies entertaining clients.
