Steam Wine Bar sits one minute from Bank and Monument stations, in a basement on St George’s Lane that has been a City institution since 2005. It does not feel like a conference room. It does not feel like a chain bar either. It feels like somewhere you’d actually want to be, which is the point.
Corporate entertaining works when people relax. When the formality drops, the conversations become useful. Steam is built for exactly that: warm, personal service, a wine list worth talking about, and a room that has seen enough City lunches to know how to run one without making a fuss of it.
We host everything from networking drinks for twenty to whole-venue private hire for 150 guests. What stays consistent is the atmosphere and the service.

It depends on the format. For a seated private dinner or lunch, we can seat up to 90 guests. For a structured event with theatre-style seating, such as a quiz or a presentation evening, we can host up to 126 guests. For a standing reception or whole-venue hire, the venue holds up to 150 guests.
Yes. Whole-venue hire is available for up to 150 guests. Your event gets the full basement, the full team, and none of the background noise of a shared space. It works well for company celebrations, large client evenings, and annual parties. Get in touch to check availability.
Steam Wine Bar is a basement venue reached by a flight of stairs. There is no step-free access to the main venue space. If any of your guests have specific access requirements, please mention this when you enquire and we will do what we can to help.
Our kitchen provides food service Monday to Friday, with lunches from midday and evening food service Tuesday to Friday. For private events, we’ll discuss the format with you and make sure the menu suits the occasion. We do not offer a separate buffet or external catering option; all food comes from our own kitchen.
We have hosted speaker lunches and presentations for many years. AV requirements vary event by event, so please include your technical needs when you enquire and we will confirm what we can provide or accommodate. We would rather be straight with you about what works in the space than overpromise.
Yes, absolutely. Steam has a strong history of speaker events and we are well set up for them. Whether you are bringing your own speaker or want to discuss options, we are happy to talk it through.
Popular dates, particularly mid-week lunches in autumn and the run-up to Christmas, can fill several weeks ahead. We would suggest getting in touch as soon as you have a date in mind. For summer events, a few weeks’ notice is usually fine, but earlier is always safer.
Our standard opening is from midday. If a morning or breakfast format is something you are interested in, please mention it when you enquire and we will see what we can arrange.
We are at 1 St George’s Lane, London EC3R 8DJ, one minute’s walk from both Bank station (Central and Northern lines, DLR) and Monument station (District and Circle lines). For guests coming from further afield, we are also a short walk from Fenchurch Street and a few minutes from Liverpool Street. The nearest car parking is the NCP on Lower Thames Street; we would always suggest public transport for City events.
