Bayern Munich Bundesliga winner, Scotland striker, and Sky Sports' loudest voice
FootballAlan 'Rambo' McInally is a rare thing in British football, a Scottish centre forward who became a Bundesliga champion and a cult figure in two countries.
He started at Ayr United before moving to Celtic, then on to Aston Villa, but the defining move of his career was to Bayern Munich in 1989. In his debut season in Bavaria he helped Bayern to the Bundesliga title, the first and still one of only a handful of Scots to have won the German championship. Eight caps for Scotland and an appearance at the 1990 World Cup finals followed.
Injuries cut the career short and sent him home, but a second act was waiting. For more than 25 years McInally has been the man in the ground on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, shouting goalflash updates with an enthusiasm that has become a weekend soundtrack for millions. 'It's all kicking off at Old Trafford, Jeff', delivered in that unmistakable Ayrshire baritone, is as much part of British football as any piece of commentary.
Away from the studio he is a keen golfer, a tireless charity supporter and an unmistakable character on the speaker circuit. The Bayern stories alone are worth the ticket.
