Dan Cole

Leicester Tigers legend, England prop, and one of the most durable front rowers of the professional era

Rugby

The story

Dan Cole packed down for England for 14 years and, at the end of it, was still going. Very few props have ever had that kind of longevity.

A one-club man at Leicester Tigers, Cole made his Tigers debut in 2007 and his England debut in 2010 against Wales at Twickenham. Over the next decade and a half he won 114 caps for England, played three Six Nations titles including the 2016 Grand Slam under Eddie Jones, reached a World Cup final in 2019 in Japan, and toured twice with the British and Irish Lions in 2013 and 2017.

At Leicester he is a genuine club icon. He won the Premiership in 2009, 2010 and 2013, the European Challenge Cup, and played more than 300 games for the Tigers in the front row, a ludicrous number for a prop in the professional era. He was called back into the England squad in 2023 aged 36 to help the team through the World Cup, which tells you everything about how Steve Borthwick rated his craft.

Off the field he is famously dry, understated, and the kind of quietly funny that only an East Midlands prop can be. He retired from international rugby after the 2023 World Cup but continues to play for Leicester, which at this point counts as both a job and a hobby.

At Steam Wine Bar, Cole brings front row truths, a decade and a half of England tour stories, and the dry wit that has made him a favourite on the speaker circuit.
