Danny Care

Harlequins' record try scorer, 101 caps for England, and rugby's sharpest scrum half

Rugby

The story

For more than 15 years, Danny Care was the cheeky, quick-witted heartbeat of Harlequins and one of the best attacking scrum halves England has ever picked.

Born in Leeds, he joined Harlequins in 2006 and stayed for his entire top flight career, winning the Premiership in 2012 and again in 2021, when his man of the match performance in the final at Twickenham was the crowning moment of a second coming no one saw coming. He is the club's record try scorer and remains a Quins legend, the player supporters still stand for.

At international level, the Care career was a tale of two chapters. He won 84 caps in his first stint up to 2018, winning a Grand Slam in 2016, before being left out of the England squad for the best part of three years. Eddie Jones eventually brought him back in his early 30s and he played his way to 101 caps, becoming one of the oldest scrum halves to play Test rugby for England and retiring from the international game in 2024.

He is already building a broadcasting career with TNT Sports and The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast alongside Mike Tindall and James Haskell. On stage he is exactly what you would expect, sharp, self deprecating, and full of the insider stories only a scrum half hears.
