About Sir AP McCoy

Sir Anthony McCoy, known throughout racing as AP, is the most successful jump jockey in the history of the sport. Born in County Antrim in 1974, he was crowned Champion Jockey in twenty consecutive seasons from 1995-96 to 2014-15, a record that may never be approached. He rode 4,358 winners over jumps, more than any rider before him, and his 289 winners in the 2001-02 season remains the benchmark for a single campaign. His major victories include the 2010 Grand National on Don’t Push It, two Cheltenham Gold Cups on Mr Mulligan and Synchronised, and three Champion Hurdles. In 2010 he became the first jockey to be voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year, and he was knighted in 2016 for services to horse racing. Since retiring in 2015 he has become one of the most sought-after speakers in British sport.
